SPENCER CRAIN

WHERE DO YOU LIVE?

Portland, Oregon.

WHAT'S YOUR POSITION AT THE BIG ANDREW AND HOW DOES THE FOUNDATION INSPIRE YOU?

My position is “Marketing Guru” of the Pacific Chapter. I coordinate sponsorships, help with race logistics, and market our event!

There are many ways the foundation inspires me, here are two: First, everyone has had their own experience with cancer— whether that be themselves, a friend/family member, or even a pet.The foundation notes the important of uniting to fight with and celebrate the lives of those who have battled with this disease.

Second, the Big A has found a way to combine my main loves in life: people, outdoor recreation, beer, and doing something that inspires you.

WHAT'S YOUR BIGGEST ASPIRATION IN LIFE?

My biggest aspiration is to travel, stay true to what makes me happy, and to share my life with people. I can’t really think of anything else that drives me more than exploring new places/things or being with the people I love. The outdoors accomplishes a lot of that for me.

HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR EGGS?

I like my eggs scrambled, for sure. But, I like a lil’ twist on them… so usually I’ll throw in some sautéed or caramelized veggies & some hash browns if I’m feeling saucy. And for the love of all things delicious, always go in for the avocado, life’s too short.

(If you read Will Grubb’s bio and he didn’t admit to microwaving his eggs, then now you know)

MOST NOTABLE PERSONAL OR PROFESSIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENT?

I was pretty proud to have lived in a beautiful town called Oviedo where almost no one spoke English, including my wonderful host parents. Also, Northern Spain has many beautiful mountains, rivers, and beaches— exploration of those was a highlight. Three months of speaking primarily Spanish taught me more about myself, culture, and my comfort zone than any other experience.

FAVORITE ACTIVITY WHEN NOT WORKING?

Go outside, get outside, be outside.

HAVE ANY PETS?

Ms. Maple Sullivan Crain is the newest member of the Crain family— a young, spry, sweet chocolate lab. And although my two labs Max and Sully have passed in the last couple of years, I still feel them with me. Outside of the immediate family, I very much feel ownership over Henry’s pooches (another member of the Big A), Axel and Maggy.

BIGGEST PET PEEVE?

Wasting time complaining or being upset about something that can be changed, settling for less, and not motivating to do what makes you happy.

FAVORITE COLOR?

Okay, so blue is technically my favorite, but burgundy has been sneaking its way in here and there recently.

FAVORITE MOVIE/WHY?

It’s a tie right now between Inglourious Basterds  because it is genius and you notice something new every time you watch it… and the entirety of the Harry Potter series because it’s a classic, makes you feel good, and JK Rowling is a goddess (the books might be better, though).

ANY CLOSING REMARKS?

Live. Your. Life. You only get one and I promise it’s really fun if you make it so! Also, love and appreciate every single person (and dog) in your life, they are there for a good reason.
